Welcome to Our Community

Market Square Lofts Condo, formally known as Patton Building, is located in the Printers Row neighborhood of Chicago's South Loop region.

The Patton Building was constructed in 1905. It has 12 stories, which is why it was originally classified as a high-rise building. It started out housing a printing establishment like many of the buildings in the Printers Row neighborhood. In later years, it became a warehouse for the printing district. In the 1990's this building was converted into a loft building and renamed Market Square Lofts due to its proximity to the market district in the loop.

Printer's Row, also known as Printing House Row, is a neighborhood located in the southern portion of the Loop community area of Chicago. It is bounded by Congress Parkway on the north, Polk Street on the South, Plymouth Court on the East, and the Chicago River on the West. Named for its origin as the location of Chicago's printing and publishing industry, Printer's Row hosted many businesses of this kind in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The remnants of these businesses can still be seen around the area. Many buildings are still known by their original publishing house names, and some even retain their original signage. Today, many of the buildings have been converted into residential lofts. Part of Printer's Row is an official landmark district.

Today, Printer's Row retains its connection to its literary history with an Annual Book Fair, held each June. Started in 1984, the fair is now an annual event, drawing booksellers and readers from all over the city and surrounding suburbs. Hundreds of stalls span both Dearborn and Harrison, and almost any book in any edition can be found. Despite its South Loop location, Printer's Row feels like a small, family-oriented neighborhood. It is a self-contained community, with day spas, dry cleaners, restaurants, coffee shops, taverns, a wine shop, several bookshops, convenience stores, realtors and even the nearby Hilton Chicago. It's all here. There is even a community center, Grace Place (637 S. Dearborn), that offers both Episcopalian and Jewish services. In the evening, several people can be found dining on the sidewalk outside various restaurants. Well-lit and abuzz with quiet chatter, Printer's Row is cozy and welcoming at night.

Unlike the rest of the Loop, this area does not fall asleep at 6 pm. And best of all, everyone knows everyone else. Truly, this is one of the most valuable aspects of the neighborhood.
